Rising R&B star Bukola lays out the 'fabric of her being' to celebrate freedom
This soulful performance from Bukola is part of FreeUp! Emancipation Day 2021, now streaming on CBC Gem
Hailing from British Columbia, Bukola's star has been on the rise since competing in CBC Music's Searchlight 2020, where she was deemed "one of the top 10 soulful female artists."
For this year's FreeUp! Emancipation Day 2021 special, Bukola offered up this intimate performance of her song "Fabric of My Being" — an ode celebrating her roots and who she is.
Braids in my hair, they tell a story. Name that I wear tells me that I'm worthy.- Lyrics from 'Fabric of My Being' by Bukola
FreeUp! Emancipation Day 2021 is a youth-led celebration of spoken word, dance, theatre and music, as we gather together to celebrate freedom. Stream it on CBC Gem and YouTube.
