Dr. Maté is a renowned speaker and author, with expertise on trauma, addiction, stress and childhood development. His latest book, The Myth of Normal, documents the rise of chronic mental and physical illnesses as a response to trauma — and trauma as a product of our culture. He has been awarded the Order of Canada.

"Trauma is when you are actually wounded and as a result, you're constricted and limited and constrained by what happened. On the other hand, where it matters, we don't use it at all," Maté told Shelagh Rogers in a 2022 interview on The Next Chapter.

"As I show in this book — and there's a vast literature, for example, linking childhood trauma and adult physical illness…The most important influence on the biological development of the human brain is the quality of adult-child relationships, particularly in the early childhood years," Maté added.

Spare, Prince Harry's memoir, was published earlier this year on Jan. 10, 2023. The 416-page book was released in 16 languages worldwide.  It is the fastest selling nonfiction book of all time.

In it, Harry chronicles personal details about his life and the wider Royal Family. From bereaved boy, troubled teen, wartime soldier to unhappy royal, the prince offers up extensive memories and reflects on what sets him apart.

The book cover shifts colour from red to pink to orange to yellow, moving from left to right. In the middle of the cover is an abstracted illustration of a human shoulders-up.

Spare was originally set to be published in 2022. The book's delay led to rumours that Harry was hesitating to say too much about his family, or was perhaps revising the narrative after his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, died in September

The event is hosted by Penguin Random House and takes place live on Saturday Mar. 4 at 12 p.m. ET. There will be no recording of the conversation.

Following the conversation, there will be an audience Q&A with Prince Harry and Dr. Maté.

Prince Harry's memoir was released officially today and is already setting sales records. Critics say the focus on the book’s salacious details has pushed aside any meaningful examination of its potential impact on the monarchy.
