10 Hair trends we're loving right now
Less heat and humidity ahead has us dreaming of our next hair looks
August is like the Sunday of summer... fall is (sadly) right around the corner. The good news? No more heat and humidity aka no more sweating aka hair that you can style! So obviously I've been obsessively collecting hairspiration in anticipation. Here are the top 10 trends we can't wait to try before winter toques start taking over. (Sorry!)
The cool crop
Both sleek and a little bit rock and roll, we've been seeing this shorter style on a few striking celebs. It's got all the drama with little fuss! And because it's above your shoulders, I would suggest going blunt with the ends, maybe even a bit longer in the front a la Lucy Hale. And styling is simple - just let it air dry, maybe flat iron a few pieces, and spray in some texturizer - you can't go wrong with the Oribe Texturizing Spray.
Pony up
This year is all about the glam pony, even if you don't have Kardashian length hair (spoiler alert - neither do they), you can use what you've got or add some extensions to create more volume. Feel feel free to make it sleek or a little tousled - the world is your oyster. Just remember - the higher the pony, the closer to God?
Platinum
Besides being "really, really, ridiculously good looking", models are known for being trendsetters because they're constantly guinea pigs for the industry insiders who delegate what us plebs should do next. The latest test case in this game is super-human Karlie Kloss who has gone v v platinum. As someone who has done this many a time, I suggest consulting a professional before you do the deed - it's definitely a head-turning look but it comes at a cost (a little bit of pain and a lot of maintenance). Also make sure you regularly use a purple shampoo.
Romantic braids
This is dream mermaid hair. You can do a fishtail or just a regular braid - just make sure it's loose, starts at the nape of the neck, and then pull a few pieces out of the braid and the front so it's a bit messy, but still totally sexy. The best thing about this look is that it's perfect on second day hair with some dry shampoo and can pass as both formal or not.
Untamted curls
I know the grass is always greener on the other side, but I would kill to have big, luscious curly hair. They style this year is au naturel - just let your curls do their thing, add a bit of a frizz tamer, et voila. Gabrielle Union has even developed a hair care line called Flawless to help achieve those perfect curls. Also, if you have curls AND bangs, you're way ahead of the game - they were all over the runway this year.
Sleek and sexy
The runways literally had women walking with hair that looked like they'd just come out of the shower, but that ain't happening IRL. Instead, we're interpreting the wet look as sleek and sophisticated - think stick straight, a deep side part tucked behind the ears, and maybe a pinch of gel.
The tousled lob
Though it's been a thing for a few years now, the tousled lob is essentially the better version of the beach wave, and there's a reason it isn't going anywhere. It's cool, fairly easy to style if you have the right cut, and gives the impression that you just rolled out of bed looking like a million bucks. The key to the 2017 version of the lob is to get blunt layers but only at the ends. And then you'll need a smouldering, come-hither look to match.
The big bang
If I had a dollar for every time a friend has asked, "should I get bangs?" I'd be one hundred dollars richer and finally able to answer YES! The fringe is in once again, and this time anything goes - from the Bardot (flirty, sometimes feathered) to the heavy blunt, everybody be bangin'. So find one that you love (and that works with your hair) and NEVER ASK ME AGAIN.
The hair flip
The easiest style to achieve from all of these is the 90s hair flip. Plus, it couldn't be sexier. Just add a bit of volumizer to your roots, deep part it on one side, let it dry, and then flip it to the other side. Va va va voom.
The pixie/shaved head
If you're daring (and have a nicely shaped head), this is a bold look that will definitely get you noticed. If you have some hesitation (or likely a lot of hesitation), you'll be glad to know that all the cool kids are doing it: see Kate Hudson, Kristen Stewart, Cara Delevingne. So throw away all of your products and your hairbrush and stock up on some big earrings and cool hair accessories.
