Time to gear up for the drop in temperature and variable terrain that comes with it

You are now allowed to stock up on Halloween candy, go wild on dat pumpkin spice and eat turkey with a side of cran for every meal – yep, it is officially fall, folks!  Though it may not feel like it yet, that cool weather is around the corner. For those of us that like to keep active outdoors, that means putting away the running shorts and crop tops and gearing up for the drop in temperature and variable terrain that comes with it. If you're not sure what gear is a worthwhile investment for the season, we've got you covered. Here are the must-haves to keep you dry, warm, safe, and obvs - fashionable!

Packable Jacket – Lole $125

You know those fall days when your runs starts out with you needing a jacket to keep warm but end with your outer layers tied fussily around your waist?  Well, Lole has a super practical solution – enter the "packable jacket". This lightweight down shell provides wind and water protection and keeps you toasty warm. When you're done with it – it folds into its own easy to carry pouch, which also makes it ideal for travel during the transitional months. It also comes in 5 different colours and only costs $125. A no brainer, right?

Stella McCartney Adidas Run Hooded Tee $140

The dream is to find a long sleeved layer that you can not only rely on to keep you cool and dry when you're active but that you can also throw on with a cute pair of boyfriend jeans and feel totally on point. Leave it to Stella to make it happen. This super chic hooded shirt has the signature Adidas climacool technology that keeps our bodies' moisture and temperature in check as well as their climalite fabric that sweeps sweat away from the skin. It's also part of their sustainable program  - which aims at creating pieces in more sustainable ways to help preserve the environment.  You need to get it – if only for the environment's sake, amirite?

Fall running shoes – Merrell Women's Agility Peak Flex in Paloma $160.00

Sometimes you just need an in-between shoe – something warm and stable like a boot but light and supportive enough to run in. The hiking experts at Merell created exactly that combo.  The Agility Peak Flex features FLEXCONNECT technology to help with agility and stability on uneven terrain as well as sticky and durable for reliable grip and traction on wet trails, creating a shoe made to endure long runs on rugged terrain. Multi-tasking hiker FTW!

Fall hiking boots - Keen Shoes Terradora Pulse Mid waterproof – $185

Goin deep on the trails? Keen has a great option that has all your technical needs covered – especially for those rugged and sometimes slippery hiking paths. The Terradora Pulse Mid is an all weather boot specifically made to fit a woman's foot and has a waterproof sole with a cushion panel that helps take the pressure off the Achilles while you make your trek. With pink, black and grey options - the issue isn't whether to invest in a pair, it's which colour to get. (My personal fave is the grey and turquoise!)

Parajumpers plain hat $130

Because some fall mornings can be a bit nippy and also because, well, any excuse to wear a cute beanie. I'm all about this wool knit hat from Parajumpers for those cool weather workouts. Real fur pom-pom getting in the way of those burpees? It's detachable. Brilliant.

RYU bag – Locker Pack Lux 24L $220

With a super sleek canvas exterior with leather accents and the slogan "your portable locker," it's not hard to see why this backpack from RYU is a worthy investment for the season. This bag is perfect for those all day hikes when you need to bring along multiple layers without burden and with a ton of style. Of course the Vancouver-based apparel company know a little something about cool, rainy conditions so this one is water repellant. Looking to invest a little less? They have great options at a few different price points.

Saucony Vitarun in Black $39.99

HyperFocal: 0

For those frosty morning runs – gloves are a must! (Did you know your wrists are a major center of body temperature?) These sleek options from Saucony are thin and comfortable but also weather and waterproof as well as touch screen compatible. What more could you want?
