Get the look: The blue denim of the 1990s
Blue denim made a style impression on this week’s episode of Back In Time For Winter
On the sixth and final episode of Back In Time For Winter, the Carlson family is back in the mid-1990s. In some ways, it's hard to believe that almost three decades have passed since teenagers loved Bedazzlers and Gameboys, and Pictionary and snowboarding were trending as family activities.
But, enough years have passed that the fashion of the '90s have had time to come back in fashion. From neon clothes to slip dresses to denim overalls, many of the decade's top trends are now hotter than ever. And, as modelled by the Carlsons, medium-wash blue denim is one '90s-inspired look that the whole family can wear.
Here's where to find these retro-perfect jeans today:
High-waisted jeans
High-waisted, 5-pocket blue jeans for women were everywhere in the 1990s, before extremely low-rise jeans came into fashion toward the end of the decade. As seen on Lauren, the perfect pair of high-waisted jeans are heavier weight, medium-blue, and either fitted and slim-cut through the legs, or boxy and loose-fitting. Ideally, you'll want to find a style that won't cover your shoes, and would look great belted.

Denim overalls
Denim overalls were incredibly popular for women, men and children throughout the decade. To get the look now, choose a light or medium blue (or even white!) pair with a full bib for a more retro look, or try denim overalls in a more unconventional colour if you prefer a contemporary twist. And definitely go for a relaxed fit.

Bootcut jeans
Straight leg and bootcut blue jeans — straight through the legs and slightly flared at the hem — were two of the most popular pant silhouettes of the 1990s, especially for men. With a medium-rise waist and classic or faded blue finish that's not distressed, the understated styles have gone on to become enduring fashion classics.
