The top 5 trends to help you slip into oversized coats this season
One layer to top them all
Is there anything worse than putting on a great outfit only to realize that it's too snug underneath your jacket? Or when your cute bell-sleeved sweater makes the arms of your coat so tight you feel like you might pop a thread?
Let's never let this happen again and instead do like David Byrne: wear the big suit — or in this case, the big jacket. The oversized trend is anything but over, and while it's nice to accentuate your bod with a streamlined look, sometimes it's nicer to let it all hang out. Plus, you can wear all the layers and feel warm without feeling bulky.
And while true oversized is the trend, you don't want to look like you're swimming in fabric or playing dressup in your dad's closet, so just go one size up or find a boxy cut or one with dropped shoulders and pay homage to the style without going all the way. If you're on the shorter side, super long might not work for you, and if you're busty, try something with a belt.
Menswear
Selena is slaying the style game right now and this oversized menswear inspired Smythe jacket is total perfection. The look is big without being baggy, and you can dress it down like she has with a pair of jeans and sneakers.

Denim
If there's one thing I know for sure, it's that jean jackets will always be in style - and this fall, bigger is better, even in the denim department. I love this look with a chunky knit during the day or shouldered over a dress at night. You'll feel like you're draped in your boyfriend's jean jacket without having to give it back at the end of the night.

Classic
Most days I'm too lazy and desperate for caffeine to change out of my pyjamas before heading to the coffee shop, and the only thing that makes me somewhat presentable is an oversized trench. A classic camel overcoat like the one Sienna Miller is rocking will go with anything (including pjs) and last a lifetime, so make this an investment piece. If you still want to be able to wear a thick sweater underneath without overheating, don't choose too heavy a fabric. I've found a nice light version plus a wool version as we dive deeper into the fall.

Leather
Make any outfit instantly cool with a leather (or pleather) jacket. Besides the fact that it's mandatory for any model-off-duty, this is the kind of piece that won't go out of style if you choose a classic cut. And, if you want to stay current, the cropped, fitted version is officially out and it's long, slouchy sibling is in.

Puffer
There's nothing that makes me smile quite like the fashion puffer. It's a bold move for sure, but nothing heats up a dreary day (or outfit) like a bright, oversized, cozy coat. A metallic one, like Kendall's wearing, can even take you from day to night. One rule you might want to follow - if you're going oversized, try not to go longer than waist level or you might look like you're wearing a sleeping bag.
