2 men drown in B.C. incidents
Police have recovered the bodies of two men who drowned in separate incidents near Kelowna and Kaslo, B.C., on Sunday.
Early on Monday searchers recovered the body of a 24-year-old Surrey man who drowned in Okanagan Lake, officials said.
The man was on holiday in Kelowna with his girlfriend when the pair got into difficulty while swimming to a boat about 30 metres from the shore in Kelowna's Mission area, at about 7 p.m. PT on Sunday.
"Apparently his shoulder became dislocated and he was unable to get back to the boat," said Capt. John Kelly, of the Kelowna fire department.
"The boat was kind of moving away from them with the current, and when the female tried to assist to get him back to the boat, she was unable to do that and she was getting pulled under as well."
The woman was rescued by a jet skier, but the man could not be found. His identity has not been released.
Kaslo drowning
RCMP in Kaslo say the body of a 73-year-old man has been recovered near a campground at Mirror Lake.
"He swam out to a dock which is 100 metres out, dove off, was struggling in the water, and never resurfaced," said Staff Sgt. Daryl Little.
Little says two men tried to help the man, but he went under.
