Curtis Sagmoen has pleaded guilty to assault and received a sentence of time served for an attack on a sex worker in Maple Ridge in 2013.

Sagmoen entered the guilty plea in Port Coquitlam provincial court on Monday, admitting to a lesser offence than the charge of assault causing bodily harm that he was facing at trial. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail — time he has already served — and 24 months of probation.

Dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit, Sagmoen declined to speak when offered a chance by the judge.

The North Okanagan resident has been accused of threatening and assaulting sex trade workers in four separate incidents.

He's been in custody since he was arrested in October 2017 and charged with several offences related to alleged threats made against a woman earlier that year.

Within days of Sagmoen's arrest, Mounties began an extensive search of his parents' farm south of Salmon Arm. That's where they discovered the remains of 18-year-old Traci Genereaux.

Police have said her death is suspicious, but no charges have been laid in connection with the discovery of her body. Sagmoen has not been named as a suspect.

In December, he received an absolute discharge after pleading guilty to mischief in connection with an incident where a homemade wooden spike belt was laid along a road near the Sagmoen family farm.

Sagmoen admitted he had access to the road and knew the spike belt was there but did not inform the woman who was driving along it. The spikes flattened the tires of her Jeep.

He will remain behind bars while he awaits trial on other charges. He's scheduled to appear in court later this month to fix a trial date on charges of assault causing bodily harm and assault.

Sagmoen is scheduled for a seven-day trial in September, when he faces eight charges, including reckless discharge of a firearm, uttering threats, using a firearm in the commission of an offence, having his face masked with intent to commit an offence, pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance.
