Lighthouse Park cliff fall sees woman rescued by hovercraft
22 year-old woman was out hiking with friends when she fell from a cliff at the West Vancouver park
A 22 year-old woman was rescued by hovercraft after falling 10 metres from a cliff at Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver on Friday.
She sustained two broken teeth and an injury to one of her arms, but is in a stable condition at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver.
The woman, whose name has not been released, had taken advantage of the sunny day to go for a hike at the popular West Vancouver park with five friends, all from Surrey, B.C.
Her friends say they heard her fall just after she broke ahead of the group. Luckily, they said, a paramedic had been hiking nearby.
The paramedic called for help, then ventured down the cliff to find the woman. She was conscious when he got there and administered first aid immediately.
West Vancouver Assistant Fire Chief Martin Leduc said a hovercraft was dispatched to attend to the young woman and take her to a nearby beach, from where she was then taken to hospital.
