Man in hospital following serious incident in Richmond
RCMP say no cause for public concern, but refuse to release further information
A man is in hospital following a serious incident Friday night in Richmond, but police are revealing few details.
The incident began around 11 p.m. PT Friday near Number 2 Road and Westminster Highway and closed down nearby Dover Park for hours.
A trail of blood could be seen leading from the park to a nearby Chevron gas station. Numerous evidence markers covered the scene.
RCMP issued a news release around 2 a.m. PT Saturday saying there was no cause for public concern.
"We ask members of the public to remain vigilant and to report anything suspicious to police by calling 911 or the non-emergency number for their local detachment," said Const. Adriana Peralta.
"As this is an active and on-going investigation no further information will be released."
While police aren't saying whether shots were fired, Dover Park was the scene of a a previous gang related shooting in 2007.
One of the men injured in that shooting was discovered dead four years later on a trail near Cypress Bowl.
