The mother of reputed Abbotsford, B.C., gangsters James and Jarrod Bacon took the stand Monday at her sons' trial on weapons charges.

James and Jarrod Bacon are facing 10 counts of weapons-related offences in the trial at the B.C. Provincial Court in Surrey.

The Crown prosecutor asked Susan Bacon about the night of April 13, 2007, when an apparent attempt was made to kill James after he drove into the family driveway in a black Chevrolet Corvette.

Susan Bacon said she was in bed when she heard a loud noise and woke up her husband.

She went downstairs and heard banging and yelling from the basement, as if someone was trying to come into the house, she said.

Bacon testified she felt frightened as her son James came in shouting, 'I've been shot, I've been shot.'

She saw that her son, then 21, was bleeding profusely from the back of the head. She then called 911 and tried to stay on the line while her husband went outside.

House search followed shooting

When police arrived, she was terrified that her sons might get shot at by the police, she testified, and added that the authorities did not treat either of her sons as victims.

In a search following the shooting, the Crown has alleged that police found four guns and ammunition in an SUV parked in the family garage, leading to the weapons charges.

Susan Bacon is expected back in the witness box on Tuesday.

The Bacon brothers' father, David, has also been subpoenaed to testify.
