RCMP in Nanaimo are looking for two suspects after a 58-year-old city employee was allegedly assaulted with syringes at a local park.

According to police, it happened at around 10 a.m. PT on Dec. 10 in Maffeo Sutton Park, the city's premier park which overlooks the local harbour.

The victim was "assaulted with syringes" in the park's washroom and "suffered wounds to his face and abdomen," Const. Sherri Wade said in a statement.

Wade says the victim was taken to Nanaimo Regional Hospital and was able to provide police with a description of his alleged attackers, describing them as white men, one with a red beard, red coat, jeans and a large medallion and the other with dark hair and dark clothes.

The latter "sustained facial injuries during the attack," Wade said.

Anyone who sees people matching the descriptions of the alleged attackers is urged not to approach them.
