RCMP shut down Kelowna party bus

Police in Kelowna have put the brakes on a mobile dance club and fined its owner for allowing open liquor on board.

Jamal Jacob's company Embassy World Entertainment converted a 1970s-era school bus, painted it black and removed the row seats replacing them with benches.

The bus has been turned into a night club on wheels; complete with stripper pole, DJ equipment and sound system.

Jacob said business has been booming since he started hosting mobile parties in the fall.

"It's been a decent business so far. It's an interesting idea, it's a good time. It's a good place to be."

But the party was shut down on Saturday, after RCMP stopped the bus and found customers had brought a large amount of alcohol on board.

"Dancing on a bus is ill advised, but open alcohol in any motor vehicle is illegal," said Cst. Kris Clark with Kelowna RCMP.

Officers issued Jacob an open liquor ticket and sent passengers home.

Jacob said they tell patrons it's illegal to bring open liquor on board, but in the past they haven't searched people as they board.

Now he is eager to get his bus rolling again and plans to meet with the City of Kelowna to get his company back on track.

But Jacob says one change will be that customers will be searched to make sure alcohol isn't brought on board in the future.
