Police continue probe of fatal Christmas Day shooting in southeast Calgary

Calgary police are continuing to investigate a Christmas Day fatal shooting in Forest Lawn amid their ongoing pursuit of a suspect in the case.

Calgary police are continuing to investigate a Christmas Day fatal shooting in Forest Lawn amid their ongoing pursuit of a suspect in the case.

Last month, police said they had charged a 21-year-old Calgary man with accessory to murder after the fact in the shooting death of Samuel Welday Haile, 24.

On Monday, police announced a second arrest, which they said took place in Edmonton. They added they would not be releasing the identity of the individual given the ongoing nature of the investigation.

The person was later released without charges.

Haile died in hospital after being shot early in the morning on Dec. 25, 2022, in the 2600 block of 35th Street S.E.

Investigators are still looking for Yoseif Hagos, 22, who is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder.

Hagos is five feet 11 inches tall, approximately 140 pounds and has a slim build. He was last seen in Red Deer, Alta., on Dec. 25, and police believe he may have been transported to Edmonton.

Police are asking anyone with information on the shooting to call authorities.
