The Calgary Parking Authority launched a new iPhone app on Wednesday with added features beyond paying for parking.

The new Calgary Parking Authority app, called MyParking, shows where parking spaces are currently open on city streets and in parkades. (MyParking screen grab)

The MyParking app can be downloaded for free.

General manager Troy McLeod says the new app will help users locate an available parking spot on city streets and in parkades.

"That's a real-time data feed that comes from our system because we have detection in our parkades, and that gives you an up to date, minute-to-minute, parking availability," said McLeod.

He says the new app will also provide some support if drivers need assistance with a flat tire or dead battery.

"They can just click a button on our app and it will connect to our office to assist them with any of those needs."

The app also has a feature to help drivers find their vehicle if they have misplaced it.
