'Victim fought very hard to survive': Images of suspect released 1 year after sex assault

The victim of a sex assault in Forest Heights was taken to hospital in critical condition and remained there for three months. The attack happened a year ago and she is still recovering.

A year after a woman was sexually assaulted in the city's southeast, the Calgary Police Service is releasing images of her attacker.

The woman was attacked in Forest Heights on July 14, 2019, and is still recovering after she sustained life-altering injuries, CPS said in a Tuesday press release.

Police were called to the 500 block of 44th Street S.E. around 4:45 a.m., and had to search to find the woman. She was taken to hospital in critical condition and remained there for three months.

"This was an extremely traumatic assault," said Det. Jeff Anderson of the CPS sex crimes unit. 

"The victim fought very hard to survive and our investigators are committed to finding the person responsible and holding them accountable."

The woman did not know her attacker, whom police describe as being six feet to six feet two inches tall with a slim build.

He is believed to be in his teens or early twenties.
