All of us can relate to money. It ties us together from coast to coast to coast. It crosses and defines socio-economic classes, it matters to young and old, male and female, regardless of upbringing.

To that end, CBC Radio is expanding its coverage of business and economics with a new national radio program called the Cost of Living. The program will explore all manner of business and economics stories, such as the sudden explosion of vape stores in Canada, or the resurgence of roadside billboards.

The program will be created and produced out of Calgary and hosted by long-time business journalist Paul Haavardsrud. Paul has reported for CBC since 2010 and is best known as the voice of business on CBC Radio One's afternoon drive home programs.

He's also contributed long-form stories to CBCNews.ca

"It's easy to remember when business was confined to a section of the newspaper or a segment on the evening news," said Haavardsrud.

"But that time is gone. Listeners have a new appetite for stories that dig into how economics, business and the world of money affects each of them.

"We like to think of this show as the economics of everyday life. Business, in the broadest possible sense, matters to all of us, whether we think about it in those terms or not."

The Cost of Living is part of CBC's commitment to better reflect a wider range of experiences and perspectives across the country.

The show will be produced out of CBC Calgary, which has a deep bench of skilled business storytellers. Tune in Saturday mornings at 11:30 MT/12:00 NT, beginning September 7th.
