Battle of the Burbs: Join us in celebrating Silver Springs as Calgary's best suburb
After more than 37,000 votes in the final round, Silver Springs takes the crown
After 118,951 votes, Calgary crowned Silver Springs as Calgary's best suburb in CBC Calgary's Battle of the Burbs competition. To celebrate, the Calgary Eyeopener is hosting a walking show in their community highlighting the best of their burb along with a celebration at Silver Springs Community Association.

Location: Silver Springs Community Association, 5720 Silver Ridge Drive N.W.
What: A Calgary Eyeopener walking show with David Gray and Angela Knight highlighting the best of Silver Springs, free coffee from Monogram Coffee, free breakfast sandwiches from Bro's to Go, live local music led by Naomi Holmes and exclusive prizes such as baseball jerseys, dog bandanas, tote bags and more.

CBC Calgary and BUMP Festival are partnering to award the winning suburb a one of a kind mural in their community! We will be working with a local artist Mike Hooves to bring this one of a kind piece to life this summer.
How we got here
After more than 37,000 votes in the final round, just 86 votes separated the two finalists, Lake Bonavista and Silver Springs. Congratulations to Silver Springs who has been crowned as the winner of this year's Battle of the Burbs. Thank you to everyone for your dedication, enthusiasm and participation!

What is a suburb?
Technically, Calgary doesn't have a single suburb in it. It's all one city without distinct suburbs. But for the sake of this competition, CBC Calgary spoke with multiple sources including historians and researchers to define just what is a suburb in Calgary. We also consulted official lists from the city about what's suburban and what's inner city, as well historical maps. The end result is the 97 communities in the competition. Disagree with us?
