A 16-year-old youth and an 18-year-old man each face one count of second-degree murder
Calgary police have charged two people after a young man was stabbed and killed on a basketball court in the southeast neighbourhood of Copperfield on Tuesday.
A 16-year-old youth and an 18-year-old man each face one count of second-degree murder following the death of 18-year-old Danillo Canales Glenn.
Due to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, police said the 16-year-old suspect cannot be named. They added that the name of the 18-year-old man has not been released to protect his identity.
Police said it was the city's 13th homicide of 2023.
On Tuesday evening at around 7:45 p.m. officers responded to calls of an assault with a weapon at a basketball court on Copperstone Road S.E.
When they arrived at the scene, police found Canales Glenn suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds, according to an earlier release. Canales Glenn was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition where he later died.
The victim and the accused did not know each other, police said.
The youth and the man will next appear in court on Monday.
