Harvie Passage on the Bow River near the Calgary Zoo will close on Saturday for flood repairs.

The area near the weir is a popular recreation area for kayakers and boaters, but the Calgary Fire Department says the June flood has made it too dangerous.

Fire officials say the flood has left exposed pipes, loose rocks and gravel deposits in the river.

safety boom is being installed as a barrier to prevent people from accessing the passage.

It's not known when Harvie Passage will reopen.
