Calgary police have charged a man in connection with the death last month of a 28-year-old man whose body was found at a house in Greenviiew, in the city's northeast.

Police were called to a residence in the 300 block of Grier Avenue N.E. on Feb. 14 for reports of a suspicious death.

The victim was identified as Jose Miguel Gutierrez Polanco, 28.

After an autopsy was conducted the next day, his death was ruled a homicide.

On Friday, Hans Nicolas Jimenez Varela, 27, of Calgary, was charged with second-degree murder, police said in a release.

"We had very little information to begin with, and through the efforts of our investigators scouring hours of CCTV and weeks of canvassing the neighbourhood and speaking with residents, we were able to bring answers to Jose's family and loved ones," said Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson of the Calgary Police Service's homicide unit.

Varela is set to appear in court on March 11.

Police are continuing to investigate and anyone with information is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or to contact Crime Stoppers.
