Morley Recreation Centre fire nets charges against 2 men
Cochrane RCMP believe fire at flood relief camp related
Two men have been charged with arson and other related offences after someone set fire to the recreation centre in Morley.
RCMP in Cochrane say the building was reported on fire around 1:30 Sunday morning.
The Exshaw fire department was able to stop the flames from spreading to the arena, but there has been significant damage to the rec centre.
About an hour later crews responded to a grass fire at the Bearspaw flood relief camp. Crews were able to contain that fire.
Police believe the two incidents are related.
The men, an 18- and 19-year-old both from Morley, are facing multiple charges including arson and break and enter.
They are expected to appear in court in August.
"The Morley Recreation Centre is a significant building in the Morley community," said Cochrane RCMP in a release. "It is unknown how much of the building is repairable at this time."
