One of two female red panda cubs born earlier this month at the Calgary Zoo has died.
Officials made the announcement on Friday.
The cubs were born June 13 to red panda Sakura. However, one was much smaller than the other, and the animal care team grew concerned when they couldn't see any movement on a monitoring camera.
The larger cub was examined and appears to be in good health and is bonding with its mother.
The surviving cub is not expected to venture out for the public to see until sometime in September.
Sakua also gave birth to two cubs one year ago, both of which were healthy.
