An injured man and woman were taken to hospital in critical condition on Tuesday morning after an apparent shooting in northeast Calgary.

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) responded to reports of a shooting in Saddle Ridge at roughly 5:45 a.m. Officers were dispatched to the 0 to 100 block of Saddlelake Green N.E., where they found the two injured with what appeared to be gunshot wounds at the scene.

Investigators said it is believed the man and woman were exiting their home and entering a car when a suspect approached them and fired several shots. The suspect then fled the scene in a car described as a dark-coloured SUV, police added.

CPS said the investigation into the incident is ongoing. The victims' conditions have been upgraded to stable. Police added it believes the event was a targeted incident.
