Police seek sedan, witnesses after couple badly injured in hit and run by Westbrook Mall
Vehicle was dark-coloured sedan and is expected to have damage to its front-end
Police are asking for the public's help to find a dark-coloured sedan — likely with damage to its front-end and possibly its windshield — after a hit and run left a pedestrian in hospital in critical condition and seriously injured another.
One of the pedestrians, a 37-year-old man, remained in hospital in critical condition on Monday, the Calgary Police Service said as it issued an update on the hit and run on Monday afternoon.
The other, a 38-year-old woman, remains in hospital with with serious injuries.
The couple were walking at the intersection of 13th Avenue and 37th Street S.W. near Westbrook Mall in southwest Calgary at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday when they were hit by the sedan, police said.
The driver failed to remain at the scene and fled northbound on 37th Street S.W.
Family members of the couple said Sunday that the man's parents witnessed the accident.
"Both victims are in a bad way and the hospital will not allow [their] parents to be with them. It is pure hell and torment for us all," a family member said in a statement sent via Facebook.
The family urged anyone with information to contact police.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the vehicle is asked to call the Calgary Police Service's traffic section at 403-567-4000, or to contact Crime Stoppers to provide a tip anonymously.
