Mayor Stephen Mandel says he'll soon decide whether he'll run for a fourth term in the October 2013 municipal election.

Mandel was first elected as mayor in October 2004. He would surpass the 11-year-record set by William Hawrelak if he serves another term as mayor.

Before he makes a decision, Mandel said in a year-end interview with CBC News that he needs to talk it over with his wife Lynn.

"Some time over the next couple months, I'll sit down and really give a long, hard think about it and make a decision," he said.

"But at this point in time, we've just finished, you know, a long debate about the budget and we've had some challenges with the arena thing."

Mandel said that his priority is to reach a deal with the Katz Group on the downtown arena by February.
