The North Saskatchewan River Valley is getting $90 million in improvements.

The money is coming from seven municipalities and the provincial and federal governments and will pay for enhancements like new trails, boat launches, docks and a footbridge.

The city of Edmonton is receiving $73 million, with $34 million earmarked for a proposed funicular or gondola to transport people from downtown into the river valley.

Other projects include a $24.5 million footbridge to link Terwilligar Park with the north side of the river;  new trails in the west and east ends of the city; and seven docks and three boat launches.

The city plans to have the projects completed by 2016.
