Homicide detectives are investigating the disappearance of a 29-year-old Hamilton woman.

Holly Hamilton was reported missing yesterday, Hamilton police announced Tuesday.

"Holly was reported missing by her family on January 15th, 2018," a news release reads. "She was last seen by members of her family in the evening hours of January 14th, 2018, but has not been seen since. Holly has never gone missing before and this is described as out of character for her.

"There is reason to be concerned for her safety and as a result the Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation."

At a press conference today, Staff Sgt. Dave Oleniuk told reporters that detectives are also trying to track down Hamilton's 30-year-old ex-boyfriend. There has been a history of domestic violence in their relationship, he said.

"We need to talk to him," Oleniuk said, though he also pointed out that the man is not currently a suspect. "We believe he has valuable information as to the location of Holly."

The man is known to police, Oleniuk said, though she is not. Police are not currently releasing his name.

The two have a daughter, Oleniuk said, who is currently "safe with her grandparents." Hamilton works for a cleaning service, but didn't show up for work yesterday.

Police say a command van will be located in the area of Barton Street East and Fairfield Avenue in the city's east end while officers canvass the neighbourhood for more information through the day.

Hamilton drives a white 1996 Ford Escort with the licence plate BRBL 996. The vehicle has some damage to one of the front fenders, police say.

She is described as black, five feet, seven inches tall, 170 pounds with long black hair.

She was last seen wearing a black parka with brown fur on the hood, blue jeans, and a white three-quarter sleeve t-shirt with black writing.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 905-546-4921.
