A 39-year-old Kitchener man has been charged with manslaughter in connection to a fatal drug overdose that happened in February, police say.

Waterloo regional police say officers were called to King St. W in Kitchener on February 25, in response to a possible drug overdose.

When they arrived, police say they found two men. A 26-year-old man was pronounced dead on-scene and a 25-year-old man was taken to hospital and has since been released, police say.

Following an investigation, police say they learned the 39-year-old accused had been trafficking fentanyl that he said was cocaine.

In addition to the manslaughter charge, the man is also facing charges of criminal negligence causing bodily harm, trafficking and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

He is expected to appear in court on April 10.
