Region reports 7 hospitalizations, 2 deaths linked to COVID-19 over weekend

Region of Waterloo Public Health reported two COVID-19-linked deaths on Sunday.

That means 209 people with the virus have died in the region since the start of the pandemic.

Seven more people with the virus were hospitalized, the region reported on Saturday. A total of 34 people are in hospital with nine in the intensive care unit.

There were 46 new COVID-19 cases reported on Sunday, a drop from the 72 cases reported Saturday.

A total of 9,775 people have tested positive since March 2020. The region is currently sitting at 458 active cases.

Meanwhile, Ontario is reporting 1,489 new COVID-19 cases and 22 more deaths on Sunday.

32 outbreaks

There are 32 active outbreaks in the region including 20 at long-term care and retirement homes.

A new outbreak has been declared at Luther Village on the Park Retirement Home with a single case in a staff member.

There are outbreaks in four congregate settings, one setting has multiple locations with a total of 52 cases.

Other outbreaks include:

• Two at St. Mary's General Hospital (5th and 4th floors).
• One at a Waterloo Catholic District School Board Program involving multiple cohorts and a total of six positive cases.
• One at an automobile sales service with two cases.
• One at a warehouse with two cases.
• One at a trades service with seven cases.
• One at a manufacturing workplace with 37 cases.
• One at Conestoga Meats with 163 cases.
