Guns seized, students warned after robbery at house party near Fanshawe
Some guest may arrive 'with the sole intention to violently rob the occupants,' police say
London police are issuing a warning to students after an attempted robbery near Fanshawe College early Sunday resulted in charges to seven people and the seizure of three firearms.
Police were called to a large student party on Thurman Circle, near Cheapside Street and Fanshawe College Blvd., at around 2 a.m. Police say two occupants of a house were assaulted by several uninvited guests and personal items were stolen.
Police say two men also suffered minor injuries.
Suspects scattered in various directions when police arrived, with some running into a stranger's home on Fleming Drive, where police arrested three people.
Others were arrested as they tried to get into a taxi cab. Police arrested two other suspects with the help of Fanshawe College Campus Security Services at a nearby park.
Two firearms were seized from one suspect and one was seized from another.
With students at Western and Fanshawe set to begin classes next week, police are issuing a warning to students planning to host a house party.
"It's important that when you have gatherings at your home, that you only allow entry to the individuals who were invited," Det.-Sgt. Blair Harvey said. "Students should be extremely careful when hosting a party. There are some people who may attend with the sole intention to violently rob the occupants."
The seven men charged range in age from 17 to 21. They face various charges, including conspiracy to commit robbery, firearms offences, bail violations and theft.
All were scheduled to appear in court Monday.
