2 people attacked after man was refused ride from delivery driver, Winnipeg police say
Man attacked a delivery driver and a 61-year-old man at a fast-food restaurant on Portage Avenue
A man walked into a fast-food restaurant Sunday morning and attacked a 61 year-old man without provocation, after assaulting a delivery driver who refused to give him a ride, police say.
Police were called to a fast-food restaurant on Portage Avenue near Sherbrook Street with a report of the assault around 10 a.m., according to a Monday news release.
The delivery driver was sitting in his vehicle in the fast-food restaurant's parking lot when a man got into his vehicle and demanded a ride, the release said. The driver, a 33-year-old man, refused and was then attacked by the man, who stole the driver's property during the altercation.
Police say the man tried unsuccessfully to get into other vehicles parked nearby after he assaulted the delivery driver.
After that, police say the man entered the fast-food restaurant and walked up to a 61-year-old man, assaulting him in an unprovoked attack, police say.
The man fled the restaurant and police arrested him nearby on Sherbrook Street.
The 61-year-old man suffered injuries to his upper body, and was assessed by paramedics and medically cleared, the release said. The delivery driver suffered minor injuries to his upper body but didn't need medical attention.
A 20-year-old Winnipeg man was charged with robbery and assault causing bodily harm and is detained in custody.
The suspect and victims were not previously known to one another, police say.
