City of Winnipeg Transit said on Friday fans attending matches at the FIFA Women's Soccer World Cup will have several options to get them to and from Investors Group Field on game day — standard routes, free post-game buses, park and ride facilities and hotel shuttles.

But riders were also told to allow plenty of time to get to the stadium or any destination nearby.

"This is a major special event which will result in the city being very busy, specifically on Pembina Highway," the city said in a statement.

"It is expected that buses serving the Fort Garry and the stadium area will also be busy; therefore all regular Transit riders and FIFA patrons are advised to leave early to ensure a timely arrival at their destination.

Fans can catch regular routes 60, 75, 78, 160 and 162 to get to the stadium. The city is also offering four Park and Ride sites for matches — from McPhillips Station Casino, Club Regent Casino, Church of the Rock in Buffalo Place and the Victoria Inn on Wellington Avenue near the airport.

Two shuttles will pick up fans at 10 hotels in the downtown area.

After the game, fans can ride free on buses waiting next to the stadium and facing west towards Pembina Highway for the following routes: 160, 75, 78, 162 and 170.

Investors Group Field is to host seven games in the championship from June 6 to July 5, involving Sweden, Nigeria, the United States, Australia, Thailand, German, China, New Zealand, Ecuador and Japan.

Organizers are expecting a big influx of visitors for the two U.S. games — against Australia on June 8 and Sweden on June 12. Games also take place in Winnipeg on June 15 and 16
