Onlookers nab suspect after man stabbed in front of Portage Place

Onlookers managed to hold onto a man police say stabbed another man twice in front of Portage Place Friday night.

Onlookers managed to hold on to a man Winnipeg police say stabbed another man twice in front of Portage Place Friday night.

Police said the victim, 20, was in front of the downtown Winnipeg mall at about 9:10 p.m. when he was confronted by several people he didn't know. When he tried to escape, they caught him and one man stabbed the victim twice in the upper body.

When police arrived, a man ran away from the scene, but was caught by officers after a short foot chase. 

The victim was taken to hospital and his condition has since been upgraded to stable.

Two men, aged 25 and 26, have been charged with aggravated assault, and one with possession of a weapon. Both men are in custody.
