The official didn't know if there were any injuries.

Brian Zolondek said he was watching the Academy Awards with his wife when she got up to grab something and saw the flames out the window at around 7:45 p.m.

Around 9:30 p.m., Zolondek said the fire was still visible.

"Just a lot of flames still coming out of this building," he said.

Zolondek said the hotel had recently celebrated its 100-year anniversary. He said losing it or the bar would be "quite a blow."

"It's crazy. You never think it's going to happen, but, you know, when it does, it does," he said. "And you're just shocked, that's all."

Letellier is about 85 kilometres south of Winnipeg in the rural municipality of Montcalm, which has a population of around 1,260 residents.
