Podge Dimagiba says he needs help to search the Red River for wife, Zhimin Liu

A Winnipeg man is desperately looking for a boat and someone familiar with the river in order to find answers about his missing wife.

On Tuesday night, Podge Dimagiba walked around his River Heights neighbourhood putting up flyers with the name and information of his wife, Zhimin (Maggie) Liu. The 32-year-old woman has been missing since late Sunday night.

"She took off on her own while we were sleeping. She has no money. She left her wallet, all her credit cards," Dimagiba said.

"She is only wearing a very thin coat and to the best of my knowledge she's not wearing any footwear."

Dimagiba, who is from the Philippines, met Liu, who is from mainland China, while they were both in Hong Kong. They fell in love and three years ago moved to Winnipeg to start a family, Dimagiba said.

"We really barely know that [many] people," he said.

The worried husband took to Facebook looking for help in locating his wife, specifically someone with a boat and knowledge of the river.

Police searched the river for Liu but only until the Forks, where the Assiniboine and the Red River meet, according to Dimagiba.

"I'm hoping to be able to search the Red River itself," he said.

Filled with worry and concern, Dimagiba still holds hope and has a message for Liu.

"I love you very much, please come home," he said.

Liu is five-feet-tall, 120 pounds and has shoulder-length black hair and brown eyes. She may be wearing a grey jacket, dark-coloured pants and dark shoes, police said.

Anyone with information about Liu's whereabouts is asked to call the Winnipeg Police Service's missing persons unit at 204-986-6250.
