Two attackers stabbed a man on Magnus Avenue early Thursday, then turned the knife on another who witnessed it, Winnipeg police say.

Police said a 34-year-old man was stabbed in the 500 block of Magnus just before 3:55 a.m. The victim managed to walk a short distance up the street before collapsing. He was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

As officers were assisting him, police were also called to a scene about a block away, where they encountered a 32-year-old man who was also stabbed.

Police say they discovered the second man had seen the earlier attack and was accosted by the suspects.

The second victim was sent to hospital in unstable condition.

Police spokeswoman Patrol Sgt. Andree Huberdeau said two suspects are in custody in connection with both stabbings. Police did not identify them.

The victims did not know each other, Huberdeau said.
