Jets coach has high hopes Jacob Trouba will stay in Winnipeg
Trouba in trade talks with Jets management, wants to play on right side
Jets coach Paul Maurice still has high hopes Jacob Trouba will stay in Winnipeg, despite the defenceman's desire to be traded.
"I'm a big Jake Trouba fan," Maurice said Friday in Winnipeg. "Every player has the right to control his own destiny. I have absolutely no problem with that."
The restricted free agent has been in trade talks with Jets management since May, although news of the negotiations only surfaced last weekend.
Trouba's agent released a statement on Sept. 24 saying "the situation is not about money"; rather, the big-framed 22-year-old just wants to play on the right side. Last season, Trouba was bumped down the lineup behind right-handed defencemen Dustin Byfuglien and Tyler Myers.
Maurice said he is confident everything will get resolved, but he hopes in the end Trouba is back wearing a Jets jersey.
"I do view him as a Winnipeg Jet, and I look forward to him walking through that door and playing with us again," Maurice said.
