The City of Montreal issued a preventive boil-water advisory Wednesday night for the entire Montréal-Nord borough.

In a news release around 8:40 p.m., the city said the advisory was necessary due to a water outage and a drop in pressure.

More than 80,000 residents are affected by the notice.

Those affected should boil water for at least one minute before consuming it or using it to brush their teeth. Water can still be used for other chores like washing clothes or taking a shower.

The advisory is in effect until further notice. The city says it will notify residents when it is lifted.
