MPs shave off for Movember

MPs across party lines shaved off their moustaches Tuesday in support of prostate cancer awareness and the annual Movember campaign.

The NDP's Peter Stoffer and Conservative Larry Miller were among the parliamentarians who shaved off their trademark facial hair on Parliament Hill to kick off the month-long moustache-growing movement devoted to raising awareness and funds for prostate cancer and men's health issues.

Liberal MP Justin Trudeau shaved off his stubble live on CBC News Network.

"I grew a little stubble over the weekend for Halloween, and now I'm going to take off on air what it was that I managed to grow," Trudeau said.

Roughly $22 million was raised in Canada last year for the cause, Trudeau said.

"Let's try and get to $30 million this year. We've got to work hard," he said. "But it's an easy kind of work where you just sort of sit back and let your face do most of the heavy lifting."

Trudeau said people from all political stripes would be taking part in Movember this year, and he urged Canadians throughout the country to support men taking part in the campaign.

"It's something that everyone can be part of," he said.

Thousands of men in Canada and other countries grow moustaches every November as part of the fundraiser.
