If you're thinking "It's been a long year" before January is even over, you're not alone. Saying goodbye to 2020 did not mean saying goodbye to the stresses of life during a pandemic. Coupled with the winter blues, it can be a dark time. One way to get a dose of escapism is binge-watching some feel-good TV. Here are five warm and fuzzy TV shows you can stream for free right now on Gem.

Kim's Convenience

(CBC Gem)

If you haven't seen every episode of Kim's Convenience, now is the time to catch up. The show's fifth season will be available to stream on Gem on January 19. The heartfelt series about the loveable Kim family and their downtown convenience store is a balm for the soul. If you liked Schitt's Creek, Kim's Convenience should also be on your watch list.

Reel East Coast

Want to support our local arts community, right from your couch? Reel East Coast is a series presented by FIN Atlantic International Film Festival. In each episode, CBC's Jeff Douglas introduces outstanding short films created by filmmakers right here in Atlantic Canada. The Great Canadian Baking Show

(CBC Gem)

Welcome to a world where the biggest stressor is whether or not pastry dough has risen properly. The Great Canadian Baking Show is the TV equivalent of a warm hug. It just might be the friendliest reality competition show out there, with each season featuring a new crop of contestants who cheer one another on as they compete. If you've already indulged in watching the first three seasons on Gem, here's some news that will make your heart happy: the fourth season debuts on February 14.

Story and the Song: Surrender

(CBC Gem)

Last year, the fourth edition of East Coast Music Hour's concert series The Story and the Song took place at Studio 60 in Halifax right before COVID-19 brought drastic changes to the way we experience live music. The concert, which features powerful performances by T. Thomason, Mahalia Smith, Tara MacLean and SHiFT FROM THA 902, can be streamed on Gem at your leisure.

In the Long Run

(CBC Gem)

In the Long Run is a British comedy set in 1980s London, created by and featuring Idris Elba. It's a semi-autobiographical account of the actor's own childhood, and is a heartwarming, nostalgia-drenched portrait of family and community. Three seasons are available to stream on Gem.
