730,000 contraband cigarettes seized in roadside checkstop
Police say they seized approximately 730,000 contraband cigarettes from a vehicle Thursday night at a checkstop on the TransCanada Highway near New Maryland, N.B.
RCMP say investigation is continuing
Police say they seized approximately 730,000 contraband cigarettes from a vehicle Oct. 5 at a checkstop on the Trans-Canada Highway near New Maryland, N.B.
The contraband cigarettes were in a U-Haul trailer being pulled by a van that stopped at the checkstop set up by RCMP Traffic Services and N.B. Commercial Vehicle Enforcement.
RCMP said a 27-year-old man from Halifax, N.S. was arrested and later released. He is set to appear in Fredericton Provincial Court on Jan. 20, 2017, to face charges related to the seizure.
The man was the only occupant of the vehicle.
RCMP said the investigation continues.
