Saint John Sea Dogs right-winger Julien Gauthier has been suspended for the next two games of the President Cup championship series in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The league issued the suspension for a hit to the head on another player in the final series against the Blaineville-Boisbriand Armada in the league final.

"I am disappointed I will not be able to play the next two games," Gauthier said in a statement released by the Sea Dogs.

"I will be working hard this week, and doing everything I can to be ready for my next opportunity to be back in the lineup."

The team said there will be no further comment from Gauthier or the team about the suspension.

The Sea Dogs lead the best-of-seven final 2-0 after posting wins at Harbour Station by scores of 6-3 and 4-0.

The series resumes in the Montreal suburb of Boisbriand on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.

Gauthier recorded 17 goals and 34 assists in 43 games in a season he split between the Sea Dogs and Val-d'Or. Ten of those goals and 14 assists came in his 20 games with the Sea Dogs.

Gauthier was a first-round draft pick of the Carolina Hurricanes in 2016, selected 21st overall.
