Rothesay woman killed in domestic homicide
Police investigation continues
A 33-year-old woman was killed in a domestic homicide on Wednesday morning, according to the Rothesay Regional Police Force.
Det. Sgt. Craig MacDougall said the homicide happened at about 5 a.m. in the Dolan Road area.
MacDougall said a 39-year-old man has been arrested. The man was originally expected to be charged Wednesday in Saint John provincial court in connection with the woman’s death.
He is now expected to face charges on Thursday.
Normally, police have only 24 hours following an arrest to lay a charge.
The names of the victim and accused will be released at a later date, "after the appropriate notifications have been completed," MacDougall said in a brief YouTube video news release.
Asked whether a child was involved, MacDougall said, "We're not prepared to release any more details at this time."
The Rothesay Regional Police investigation is continuing.
A police cruiser was blocking access to the driveway up to the Silverwood Apartments building at 134 Dolan Rd., on Wednesday afternoon.
Only residents were being allowed to go up and down to the building.
Officers were in the process of obtaining a search warrant.
Residents in the quiet neighbourhood who spoke to CBC News said they are shocked by the violent incident.
Janice Collier, who lives behind the building, said she didn't hear anything unusual.
"It's a very quiet street," she said. "I don't know, it's just mind-blowing."
The case has also generated comments on Facebook.
"What a shame," wrote Debhra Mannett.
"So sad," commented Linda Steen.
"She will be loved and remembered always," posted Jess Mersereau.
