Fire destroys Bell Island home

Police said two occupants of the residence were able to exit safely on their own, however as a precaution, the homeowner and a family member were treated and released from the Dr. Walter Templeman Health Care Centre.

It took almost four hours and four fire trucks to extinguish a house fire on Saturday.

Bell Island RCMP said two occupants of a home in Wabana were able to exit safely on their own, when a fire broke out Saturday afternoon.

Fire crews and police attended the fire at a home on Wiseman's Lane.

A source told CBC News that it took almost four hours to extinguish the fire, with the assistance of four fire trucks.

High winds and a large number of vehicles blocked firefighters' efforts on Saturday, as curious onlookers flocked to the fire scene to see what was going on.

Although there were no human injuries, a pet cat died in the fire. 

The owner of the home and a family member were treated and released from the Dr. Walter Templeman Health Care Centre.

Police do not believe the fire was suspicious in nature.
