Bell Island RCMP said two occupants of a home in Wabana were able to exit safely on their own, when a fire broke out Saturday afternoon.
Fire crews and police attended the fire at a home on Wiseman's Lane.
A source told CBC News that it took almost four hours to extinguish the fire, with the assistance of four fire trucks.
High winds and a large number of vehicles blocked firefighters' efforts on Saturday, as curious onlookers flocked to the fire scene to see what was going on.
Although there were no human injuries, a pet cat died in the fire.
The owner of the home and a family member were treated and released from the Dr. Walter Templeman Health Care Centre.
Police do not believe the fire was suspicious in nature.
