N.L. karate kids heading to world championships in Florida

A group of young martial artists from Newfoundland and Labrador have all been selected for the Canadian national team.

A group of young martial artists from Newfoundland and Labrador have all been selected for the Canadian national team after competing in a karate tournament in Ottawa.

Alex Foley's Academy of Martial Arts in the Goulds recently took five students to the WKCNational Karate Championships, representing Atlantic Canada.

Competitors from Alex Foley's Academy of Martial Arts made Team Canada at a recent tournament in Ottawa. Now they're off to the World Championships in Orlando this November.

Abby Hounsell, Ryan Bennett, Thomas Power and Zach Connolly joined coach Alex Foley on the trip, competing at the event in both continuous sparring and point sparring.

All five were successful in their respective divisions and all were named to the Canadian team. In November, the group will represent their country at the World Karate Championships in Florida.
