Haunted NL: 'The Guardian'

It's Victorian mansion-turned-office building in downtown St. John's. But a piece of the past refuses to move out.

The Association of Registered Nurses NL shares its office with a haunting roommate

"We consider Agnes a friendly ghost…"

Lynn Power says there's nothing to fear about the spirit that inhabits her office.

Power is the Executive Director of the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland & Labrador, better known as ARNNL. The Association is headquartered in a Victorian mansion-turned-office in downtown St. John's.

But Power says that a former occupant of the house is still there.

"Agnes Ledingham was actually a real person," Power says.

Ledingham was the sister of the building's original owner. When the sister died in the late 1800s, Ledingham moved in to take care of six children.

Ledingham herself passed away in 1926. But Power says that she and several others who work at  ARNNL have felt her presence in all sorts of ways, from unexplained phone calls to ghostly apparitions.

"It's kind of like she just lets you know she's there," Power says.
