Pep rally held in Corner Brook for Canada Winter Games team
There was a rally in Corner Brook on Wednesday for young athletes going to the Canada Winter Games next week in Prince George, B.C.
About 30 members of the Newfoundland and Labrador team attended the event at the city's civic centre.
Patrick Walsh, a 15-year-old skier from Labrador City, has been competing since he was six.
"This is a big deal," he said.
"I have been working towards it since I was really young. It's just so surreal to be here."
Fun and games
As well, a ceremonial cake was cut by the team, and uniforms were shown off for friends, family and community supporters.
Stephenville's Marigold Benoit is competing in the biathlon next week at the games.
"I'm really looking forward to representing my province," she said.
"I'm looking forward to having fun, meeting new people, and doing my best."
The west coast and Labrador athletes will meet up with the rest of the provincial team and fly to Prince George late next week.
The games run from Feb. 13 to March 1.
