Red Cross steps in to help 2 families displaced by fire
The Canadian Red Cross is helping a Bishop's Falls family whose home was extensively damaged by fire on Thursday.
A woman and her 10-year-old daughter are now staying with relatives while the Red Cross helps them with clothing, food and other essentials.
Her husband is working out of the province but is on his way back home since getting the news, the organization said in a statement.
It was the second of two fires that required assistance from the Red Cross on Thursday.
The organization also assisted a family in the west coast community of Frenchman's Cove, which is 20 kilometres northwest of Corner Brook.
In that blaze, the family's bungalow was gutted by smoke and flames. It was insured, but volunteers provided clothing and teddy bears to comfort the two young children.
