Simms swept the riding Monday night, beating out former provincial cabinet minister Kevin O'Brien, NDP candidate Claudette Menchenton and Green Party candidate Elizabeth Perry.
Simms took 26,572 votes, while O'Brien was far behind with 6,503 votes. Menchenton garnered 2,184 and Perry claimed 271 votes.
"We couldn't overcome the anti-Harper issue in Newfoundland and Labrador," said veteran politician O'Brien.
"I ran for a need and that was the need to have somebody on the government side if the Conservatives were to form government."
The riding of Coast of Bays-Central-Notre Dame encompasses a large portion of the riding of Bonavista-Gander-Grand Falls-Windsor, which was held by Simms for nearly 11 years.
